Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council

Bordering Manchester in the North and Cheshire in the South, the Borough of Trafford comprises the major towns of Altrincham, Sale, Stretford and Urmston.

Together with its surrounding villages, Trafford Metropolitan Borongh Council serves the interests of approximately 220,000 residents and owns 200 buildings.

The Challenge

The Council previously used several suppliers to manage its IT infrastructure needs but a general dissatisfaction with the fragmented services provided and spiraling costs led the Council to rethink its approach.

A growing voice and data network serving the Borough’s schools, libraries, offices and other public service facilities meant the Council was frequently faced with more complex IT issues, as well as increasing workloads due to the upkeep and installation of new cabling. It was no longer viable to operate in such an unregimented way and above all there was a fundamental need to negotiate a realistic pricing structure.

The proposed solution was to source a single service provider with the capacity and expertise to cater for all its IT requirements. So, in a bid to secure best value, quality workmanship and a much improved service, Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council put its IT requirements out to tender.

Solutions Delivered

As an expert in network infrastructures, IT solutions and support, ISG technology’s integrated approach met the Council’s criteria on all fronts. As well as having the appropriate skill set, ISG was able to demonstrate the flexibility required by the Borough’s IT team and worked with the Council to agree a pricing structure to suit both parties from the offset.

Following its official appointment as the Council’s preferred technology partner, ISG embraced its ability to provide an end-to-end service covering all the Council’s cabling and infrastructure requirements, including voice and data applications.

Beyond providing the Council with the much improved service it desired, ISG put specific measures in place to cope with increasing user demands, office moves and new developments by creating an integrated, user friendly solution to help manage these typical day-to-day interruptions more effectively.
