Case Study: PRS for Music
"ISG’s Managed Service has proved very flexible by ensuring excellent user support and providing constant improvements. ISG clearly understands our business and has built a strategic partnership with us."

IT Support Director,
PRS for Music
The MCPS (Mechanical Copyright Protection Society) and PRS (Performing Right Society) Alliance is a joint organisation servicing the interests of the writers and publishers of musical works.

Recently rebranded PRS for Music, the company collects license fees for public performances and broadcasts and ensures members rightfully receive royalties owed.
PRS for Music distributes over £600 million of combined mechanical and performing rights revenues to tens of thousands of music creators and maintains a database of over 10 million copyrighted musical works.
The Challenge
The Alliance sought a technology partner with the capacity and expertise to provide a fully managed service for its vast IT infrastructure.

With 1,200 employees in the HQ and regional offices using over 200 different applications, the organisation needed a reliable and responsive service provider.
The requirement was for a managed IT service built upon a tough Service Level Agreement.

The aim was to improve communication and distribution processes between users across its six sites throughout the UK and Ireland.
"Our support team was stretched, partly due to a non-standard infrastructure. We wanted to improve reliability by introducing Service Level Agreements, but we needed the right technical resources."

Solutions Delivered
ISG technology was first brought on board to provide PRS for Music with its fully managed services in 2000.

The ISG technology team has achieved 99.9 per cent server and network availability and a recent helpdesk questionnaire confirmed high levels of user satisfaction, demonstrating excellent relationships between the two organisations.

On the back of ISG technology’s track record, PRS for Music has recently signed a three year extension to retain ISG technology’s infrastructure, helpdesk and    deskside   support,    server     and
storage, networking and break-fix services. It has also tasked the technology specialist with upgrading its server networks using the latest virtualisation techniques.

As well as the obvious benefits of reducing carbon footprint, power consumption and associated costs, through the virtualisation of its servers, PRS for Music will increase its existing capacity, achieve higher levels of resilience and improve disaster recovery timescales. It  will  also  provide increased adaptability to key business applications and create a more dynamic systems architecture.
"ISG demonstrated the appropriate technical resources and skills to improve our services to the required standard. The company was very professional, well prepared and offered good value for money."
